Bag and Poster

I wanted to turn the 3D Tube map into a poster/bag. I experimented with extending some lines out further than the others, and I really liked this effect.

The goal of these outcomes is to help the RNIB to spread awareness about the difficulties that some people have when interacting with various maps throughout London. I used aspects of Unorthodox Marketing to help achieve this, using attention grabbing titles and slogans.

  1. First Poster

I took this render and brought it into Affinity Designer to edit it and add imperfections. I then added text to it, and I really like the visual spacing, and how its contained within the extending arms of the different Tube lines. I wanted to highlight the word mess, so I chose to use the colour of the Overground line to give continuity to the focal point of the design. I also warped the text to help add further emphasis.

I also created an alternate version which aimed to be more of a celebration of the London Tube, as my previous version felt somewhat disrespectful to such a celebrated graphic, potentially discouraging people from taking action.

  2. First Bag

To turn it into a bag, I adjusted the composition and made it more central.

  3. Second Bag

For the second bag, I removed the large text, and instead went for a more simplistic design with just the Tube map. The bag was planned to showcase zone 1, and to demonstrate this I added a small indicator at the bottom.

    I then created a mockup:

  4. Second Poster

For my next poster, I really wanted to lean into the snaking aspects of the Tube lines, extending some to stretch past the container, and out past the edge of the page. I again leaned deep into the screen print/retro style that I had previously used, taking advantage of the Halftone filter to give it a worn effect.

I originally intended to have the zone information outside the boundary, but by moving it in, it made everything seem more crammed, representing the lack of screen space that the actual Tube map has to contend with, as more lines keep on getting added to it.
