Unorthodox marketing is a strategy that involves using unconventional or creative methods to promote a product. It helps to make it stand out from the crowd and capture the attention of many. Some examples of this are controversial adverts, where the social media buzz and news reports about it generate lots of attention for the product. I really want to use this form of advertising to my advantage, and I had the idea to create a series of outcomes which look as though a traditional poster has been graffitied or vandalised with complaints about accessibility issues. This would help to draw lots of eyes towards the poster due to its unconventional style.
I eventually settled on using the McDonald’s ad campaign for its monopoly game. I chose it because of its large use of various shades of green, yellow and red, all colours that are difficult to see for many people.
Below are some images that show how people with normal vision perceive colours, and how people with red/green colour blindness see the same images:
As you can see, there is a stark contrast between normal vision and red/green colour blindness, and I really want to expand on this in my outcomes.
