Using my isometric drawing, I first started by creating a box net for the inner part. I then cut them out and stuck them together.
Whilst I was happy with the overall sizing and shape, I didn’t adjust the sizing of the sleeve to fit properly around the inner tray. I also didn’t add enough tabs on the cap of the sleeve, making it flimsy.
For my second prototype I made the net digitally. This helped me to fine tune the dimensions more, and also allow me to laser cut it further down the line. This prototype turned out far more rigid and the sleeve fitted over the tray much better.
For my final design I first started by printing the design on a heavier card stock. I then carefully lined it up inside the laser cutter when it then accurately cut it out and scored the folds. This gave me a far more precise result than cutting it out by hand.
I then also laser cut the 3D element from green card which I would then stick over it.
